QPPM — Quality Parts Per Million

Track, measure, and systematically reduce your quality defect rate with QPPM — the essential metric for supplier quality management, customer scorecards, and process improvement.

QPPMMETRIC

Measure Quality. Drive PPM Excellence.

QPPM (Quality Parts Per Million) is a quality performance metric that measures the number of defective parts produced or supplied per one million parts — providing a precise, universally comparable indicator of process or supplier quality performance. QPPM is widely used in automotive, electronics, aerospace, and precision manufacturing for supplier scorecards, customer quality reporting, internal process benchmarking, and Six Sigma improvement programmes. World-class manufacturers target QPPM levels below 50, while premium automotive suppliers are expected to achieve below 10 PPM.

At Q’mArk Group, we implement structured QPPM measurement and improvement programmes that help organisations accurately measure their quality performance, establish meaningful targets aligned with customer requirements, and deploy systematic improvement actions to achieve and sustain world-class QPPM levels. Our QPPM programmes integrate with your CAPA system, SPC monitoring, and supplier quality management processes — creating a data-driven quality improvement cycle that drives continuous, measurable reduction in defect rates.

QPPM Formula

QPPM = (Number of Defective Parts ÷ Total Parts Produced or Supplied) × 1,000,000

Example: 25 defectives ÷ 500,000 produced × 1,000,000 = 50 QPPM

QPPM Measurement & Reporting System

We design and implement a QPPM measurement and reporting system aligned with your production processes, customer scorecards, and QMS requirements — defining defect classification criteria, sampling plans, recording methods, and monthly reporting formats that provide accurate, consistent QPPM data across all products and processes.

Customer QPPM Scorecard Management

We help you understand and respond to customer QPPM requirements and scorecards — analysing incoming QPPM data from customers, investigating specific defect events, implementing targeted corrective actions, and building the supplier quality performance track record that protects and grows your customer relationships.

Process QPPM Improvement

We apply structured quality improvement methodology — Pareto analysis, SPC, FMEA review, and Poka-Yoke — to systematically reduce your QPPM by identifying and eliminating the highest-frequency defect categories and the process root causes behind them.

Supplier QPPM Management

We implement incoming quality control systems and supplier QPPM tracking programmes — monitoring supplier quality performance, issuing corrective action requests for QPPM exceedances, and conducting supplier development activities to improve supply chain quality and protect your production processes from incoming defects.

Our Engagement Roadmap

01
QPPM Baseline Assessment

We establish your current QPPM baseline — calculating QPPM by product, process, defect category, and supplier — and compare against customer targets, industry benchmarks, and world-class performance levels to quantify the improvement opportunity and prioritise action.

02
Root Cause Analysis & CAPA

We investigate your highest-QPPM defect categories using structured root cause analysis tools — 5-Why, Fishbone, and SPC analysis — to identify the specific process variables and systemic causes driving your quality failures, and implement effective CAPA to eliminate them.

03
SPC & Process Control Implementation

We implement Statistical Process Control (SPC) on your critical quality characteristics — monitoring process stability in real time, detecting early signs of process drift before they generate defects, and establishing control limits that ensure consistent production within specification.

04
Sustained QPPM Review & Improvement

We establish monthly QPPM review processes — analysing trends, investigating exceedances, tracking CAPA effectiveness, and reporting progress against targets — embedding QPPM management into your quality review rhythm and sustaining a culture of continuous quality improvement.
